Gangster Cows by Bob Orsillo

Originally this sequence was created for an exhibit on sex and violence. Each image was constructed from multiple film negatives in a chemical darkroom using the pin registration technique for accurate alignment. Using pin registration the negatives were exposed on 4x5 Polaroid positive and negative film creating a 4x5 work print and negative. Colors come from a combination of chemical dyes, tea and masking darkroom techniques.  Due to the combination of processes and coloring used one the negatives and prints only a single 8x10 silver gelatin print could be made of each image. The original exhibit showed the silver gelatin prints matted in 12 ply cotton rag, framed in simple black wood under glass. Subsequently Gangster Cow was exhibited throughout the United States, Europe, South America and the Islands.  For each exhibit a set of original archival giclee’s were printed in sizes from 8x10 to 4ft x 8ft.

The original silver gelatin prints as well all the exhibit prints are in private collections and exhibited by their owners regularly.
